The Saturday Milan derby pits together the last two champions of Italy's Serie A as AC Milan takes on Inter Milan at the San Siro Stadium in which both teams share as their home stadium. AC Milan managed to dislocate Inter Milan as the King of Italian football although the latter managed to revenge by eliminating the former in the Coppa Italia semifinals. The two teams share one of the oldest bitter-sweets rivalries. Going on to secure their first title for over a decade at the end of the season - and edging out their foes by a margin of two points, Stefano Pioli's side currently hold the upper hand in the two giants' unending battle, but both have recently surpassed their long-dominant counterparts from Turin.
Milan are naturally targeting a fast start in the 2022-23 season as they seek to hold off the challenge of Inter, Juventus, Roma, and Atalanta. However, two lackluster draws over the past fortnight have left them trailing ahead of the season's first Milan derby. They were first held by current top-of-the-table Atalanta before suffering a stalemate again with Sassuolo. Having rotated their squad, Milan produced a rather turgid display and were forced to settle for a goalless draw at the venue they were crowned champions just a few months ago. Furthermore, they required a Mik Magnain penalty save to help them secure it. They, however, remain unbeaten in each of their last 20 league outings and are the only team in Europe's top five leagues who have kept most clean sheets having 14 of them in the year 2022. However, they have failed to win in any of their last six meetings with their city rivals ever since the 3-0 victory in January 2016.
Inter will kick off the derby this time around enjoying a one-point advantage over their arch-rivals. Emilia Romagna steered his side to victory over the newly promoted Cremonense bouncing back to winning ways after suffering a defeat from his former team. Lautaro Martinez had scored in that 3-1 loss to Lazio, and the Argentina international was on hand again to cap off a 3-1 win at San Siro and put Inter on nine points from a possible 12 so far - just one shy of league leaders Roma. The Nerazzurri are nominally the away side on Saturday, but having now posted six successive Serie A wins on their own patch - and scored in each of their last 16 league games - they are intent on wresting second city supremacy from their Rossoneri rivals.
Both teams on Sunday will avail their best sides even though they kick off UEFA Champions League campaigns in the coming days. The possible starting lineup of AC Milan will be Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Messias, Diaz, Leao; Giroud while the possible starting lineup of Inter Milan will be: Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Martinez, Dzeko.
