UEFA has fined PSV €40,000 and banned the team from selling tickets for their next Europa League away game after fans ripped out seats and hurled items after the match at Arsenal. The Dutch club has just discovered their punishment hours before tonight's kick-off match of their return leg against the English Premier League current top-of-the-table, Arsenal. UEFA has further ordered PSV to reimburse Arsenal for the cost they used in repairing the damaged seats. The football authority has given the club 30 days in which they are to address the matter with the Gunners.
Trouble broke out after the end of last Thursday's game in which Arsenal won 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium guaranteeing them a spot in the knock-out stages of the UEFA Europa League competitions. In addition to seats being damaged and destroyed by the PSV fans, a flare was also tossed from the PSV section toward the Arsenal supporters. UEFA confirmed the punishment saying that PSV were imposed "for the throwing of objects, crowd disturbances, and acts of damages".
The next away game for PSV in which they will be forced to play without their supporters at the stands will be against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday in Norway next week. Depending on the outcome of the UEFA Europa League results from tonight, that game might decide who will join Arsenal in the knock-out stages of the competition.
