After missing out on breaking the world record just by a second in last year's Monaco Diamond League edition, she now trains her eyes on outdoing herself this year.

The 10th leg of the Diamond League is taking place in the French city of Monaco and a host of tried and tested athletes as well as freshly minted gold medalists have been drafted to participate in this Monaco edition. Multiple Olympics and World Champion Faith Kipyegon will be among the star attractions at the event together with fellow Kenyan Norah Jeruto. In last year's event, Kipyegon clocked 3:51.07 to claim victory missing the World record set by Genzebele Dibaba just by a second. She then went ahead to clock 3:58.33 in the final held in Zurich and she will now be aiming to produce a better performance as she enters the competition on the back of a World Championship title.

After she returned from the World Athletics Championships in the U.S.A, Kipyegon made it clear that her focus had shifted to breaking the world record with Monaco being a suitable place given her near achievement towards the goal at the same place last year. "I am so grateful and looking forward to becoming the Greatest of all Time in 1500m. My target is to now get the world record. The hard work will continue and I pray that I remain injury free and mentally strong. In the next two weeks, I'm going for the Diamond League in Monaco which is a very fast track and I'm looking forward to racing there for the second time," Kipyegon said. She stormed to victory last week in Oregon after clocking 3:52.96 beating her Ethiopian counterpart Gudaf Tsegay. The performance enabled her to reclaim back the World Championship title she had lost to Sifan Hassan during the 2019 games in Doha.

Norah Jeruto, on the other hand, will take on the 3000 meters steeplechase track hoping to defend her title. Since winning the Diamond Trophy in 2019, Sydney McLaughlin will be making her first Wanda Diamond League appearance just weeks after stunning the world to become the 400m hurdle champion in a world-breaking run. The Jamaican 100m and 200m gold medalists Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson will face each other in a head-to-head 100m race as they both hope to pick up crucial points as they look to cement their place in this year's Wanda Diamond League Final.
