One week after they were held to a 1-1 draw, 2018 World Cup finalists meet yet again at the Stade de France as France take on Croatia. The French were held to a 1-1 draw by Austria on Friday night as the Croatians went passed Denmark to beat them 1-0. Whether it is tiredness from a long and grueling domestic season or something deeper within Didier Deschamps's ranks, it is simply not clicking for France at the moment, and they are at risk of ending the month without a win from four Nations League matches. The France national team fanatics feel that a change is needed at the hot seat and Zinedine Zidane's links with Paris Saint Germain is not music to their ears as they had hoped the former Real Madrid coach would sooner or later take over the mantle as the France national football team coach.
The reigning world champions are down in fourth place in their respective UEFA Nations League group as they have only picked up two points out of a possible nine. They are in a danger zone as it signals a relegation to league B should their fortunes not improve. This will not do them good as it will deplete their morale ahead of the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar where they are expected to defend their title as world champions. The 2018 World Cup runners-up, Croatia are now seating pretty at 3rd place but if they will be defeated tonight, then they will drop back to fourth place. They have already held France to one stalemate this month and would fancy their chances of doing the same again.
Since bowing out of the Euro 2020, their only loss in their last 12 games was the 3-0 defeat they suffered from Austria earlier in the month. All eyes will be on Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe as he is now fit to take up his place in the starting lineup as Deschamp banks on him to be at his 100% level best tonight. Croatia on the other hand will use some expertise from Real Madrid star Luka Modric as they look forward to holding the reigning world champions to yet another draw or better still dream of bagging a win at Stade de France tonight.
