sokapro-Hodgson comes out of retirement to lead the Crystal Palace battalion in the relegation war.

As the relegation battle takes shape, Crystal Palace management has opted to rely on their loyal tried and tested soldier Hodgson to lead the rest of the troop out of the trenches.

Crystal Palace are barely comfortable in the Premier League table as they are only sitting three points clear from relegation which is a very dangerous position they are in. With only 10 matches left to salvage themselves from the jaws of relegation, Hodgson has been called out from retirement to come and lead the Eagles in this war with the hierarchy having sacked former coach Patrick Vieira. Crystal Palace are yet to win since their last victory on December 31st and have only picked up five points in their last 12 fixtures played. Days after Patrick Vieira's sacking, interim boss Paddy McCarthy saw his side dispatched 4-1 by leaders Arsenal on Sunday to leave Palace three points above the relegation zone in 12th.

Hodgson hang up his boots at the end of last season after unsuccessfully trying to attempt to make Watford remain in the English top-tier league. He has, however, been tempted back to the dugout at least until the end of this season as Palace will be depending on his long-time coaching experience to turn things around in their favour. The former England boss said: "It is a privilege to be asked to return to the club, which has always meant so much to me, and to be given the important task of turning the team's fortunes around. Our sole objective now is to start winning matches and to get the points necessary to ensure our Premier League status. Crystal Palace is known for its fighting spirit and I have no doubt that all our supporters will fight with us, beginning with the visit of Leicester a week Saturday."

It will be Hogson's second spell at the Eagle's hot seat after keeping Crystal Palace in the Premier League from the 2017-18 campaign to the end of the 2020-21 season. He later stepped down from his role and was replaced by Vieira. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: "I would like to welcome Roy and Ray back to the club. We are obviously in a very challenging period but we believe that Roy's and Ray Lewington's experience, knowledge of the club and players, alongside Paddy can help fulfill the immediate requirement of keeping us in the league." The coaching staff at Palace also features Paddy McCarthy, Ray Lewington, and Dean Kiely.

The next five fixtures are:

April 1: Leicester (home)

April 9: Leeds (away)

April 15: Southampton (away)

April 22: Everton (home)

April 25: Wolves (away)
