Belgium is the only national team that was ranked 1st in FIFA Rankings but are yet to win the World Cup. They are currently ranked 2nd after they were overtaken at position one by South American giants Brazil. The current Belgium squad has been described as the ‘golden generation’ boasting the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin de Breynue, Romelu Lukaku, and their goal keeper Courtois. But these players always come out short when it matters most. In the 2018 FIFA World Cup, they finished as 2nd runners up after they were defeated by eventual champions France 1-0 in the semifinals. Recently, Belgium has received a thorough 4-1 beating from the Netherlands in the opening game of their UEFA Nations League. 

Tonight Belgium host Poland and they will aim not to be on the wrong end of the scoresheet in front of their fans in Brussels. Poland managed to defeat Wales 2-1 but at that time the latter were focused on qualifying for the World Cup which they were successful at. Belgium are desperately seeking to improve their morale before the World Cup and are looking to put behind days of underperforming in big tournaments. A record of two wins in their last seven games in all tournaments is alarming. Karol Swiderski and Jakub Kaminski got Poland's World Cup preparations starting on the right foot and will be looking to extend their good run as they face the second-best placed team in the world according to FIFA World Rankings though they themselves are ranked 26th.

Poland have picked up 7 victories from their last 10 matches and they boast of Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich who is ever in form despite him approaching his sunset years in his football career. Belgium's all-time record goal-scorer Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea will not be available in the match against Poland as he only lasted in the pitch for 27 minutes before he twisted his ankle and had to come off. Lukaku will seemingly sit out the rest of June's fixtures. This gives room for Batshuayi, Dries Mertens, and Leandro Trossard to battle out for Lukaku's position.
