sokapro-UEFA Champions League: Benfica vs Inter Milan

Benfica are arguablly one of the best squads in the UEFA Champions League this season sailing in the same boats with the likes of Napoli, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. Their form will be needed tonight when they face off with Inter Milan on home soil.

The quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League are upon us and high-flying Benfica welcome out-of-form Inter Milan to Estadio da Luz tonight. It has been an outstanding UCL campaign for Benfica this season as they finished top of a group that contained European heavyweights Paris Saint Germain and Juventus with the Italian powerhouse exiting the competition in the group stages. The Portuguese giants are unbeaten in this season's campaign, a feat that they share with Manchester City and Bayern Munich

Napoli are the only team to have scored more goals than Benfica in this year's competition as they have 25 goals while the latter have 23. This is a statistic that would worry Inter Milan who have struggled to keep a clean sheet in the Serie A league competition of late. On Friday, Benfica's preparation for Inter saw them beaten by bitter rivals FC Porto 2-1 cutting their lead at the top of the standings to seven points. This marked their first league loss since the turn of the year.

As for Inter Milan, the new year has produced a mixed bag as evidenced by their wretched sequence of results since the end of February. After a commendable 1-0 win over Porto in Europe, they went ahead to be beaten by Bologna which marked the beginning of a run of games in which only one victory has been secured in seven games in all competitions. Goal scoring has been an issue for the Italian powerhouse with them not scoring more than one goal in three of those seven fixtures. Further, they have even failed to find the back of the net in as many games.

Inter Milan enter tonight's fixture following a 1-1 Good Friday draw with Salernitana. However, the squad can take solace in the many chances they created in the game but also keep in mind that they can no longer afford any more off days in front of the goal, especially when facing one of the best teams in this season's UEFA Champions League campaign.
