Michael Olunga was the Qatar Stars League (QSL) top scorer of the season but despite that, he still missed out on the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award to Akram Afif. Olunga also helped his side clinch the Emir Cup. Aifif is a Qatari national with Tanzanian roots but only managed 14 goals all season. There are, however, other parameters that were put in place before the final decision was made by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) to award the MVP trophy to Afif who triumphed over Kenyan international Olunga.
The Harambee Stars captain, however, bagged the Mansour Moftah Award. This is an award that is issued to the league's top scorer. Olunga now adds his second golden boot to his name having clinched his first in his final season with Kashiwa Reysol. The former Gor Mahia forward lit up the league with a number of classical goals despite missing out on two games due to injury. His closest challenger was Ghanaian Andrew Ayew who he left with a wide margin as he only managed 15 goals. Olunga extended his goal-scoring to the AFC Champions League where he helped Al Duhail secure a knockout place in the tournament.
Al Duhail ended a three years wait to lift the Emir Cup after thrashing Al-Gharafa 5-1 in the final which the Kenyan international scored a brace. Other winners in the Qatar awards included, Al Wakrah's Marquez Lopez who walked home with the Best Coach Award, Al Gharafa's Homam Al Ameen who beat Kenyan-born Hashim Ali to win the Best Under-23 Player Award.
