Egypt and Liverpool star Mohammed Salah was targeted by lasers coming from the Senegal fans' stands.

Liverpool and Egypt star Mohammed Salah was targeted by lasers before he missed a penalty kick in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers match against Senegal. The loss ensured that Egypt were out of the Qatar world cup that will take place later in the year between November and December. Before he could miss the crucial penalty, Salah was seen with several lasers being shined onto his face by spectators at Senegal's Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor. Through out the match, the partisan home crowd was seen shining lasers on the pitch with the pointers out in full force during the penalty kicks. Several lasers could be seen on Salah's face before he could take the penalty which he missed with the eventual shoot out ending 3-1 in favour of Senegal.

The Egyptian head coach Carlos Queiroz stepped down after the match ending his short period in charge of the team after taking up the role in September. The Egypt FA have confirmed that they have filed a complaint based on the atmosphere at Senegal during the game though they did not point out on the lasers issue specifically. The complaint was lodged against their Senegalese counterpart to FIFA, CAF, security officials, and the match observers.
