FIFA has made valid the decision to suspend Kenya from the federation because of third party interference. FIFA held it 72nd congress in Doha, Qatar on Thursday ahead of the the draw to be held on Friday. A total of 198 members voted for the ratification of the decision made by the world football governing body while only 1 member voted against the motion. Kenya was suspended on February 24th due to government interference. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) which was headed by President Nick Mwendwa was disbanded by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of the sports docket , Amina Mohammed and matters of handling football in the country were handed over to a caretaker committee headed by former judge Aaron Ringera. “This is a very serious violation of the FIFA status” President Gianni Infantino announced.
Former FKF President, Sam Nyamweya has said that the ratification gives the Kenyan nation time to clean up it mess further stating that the care taker committee had failed to deliver its mandate. Nyamweya claims that expectations were that the care taker committee would streamline the running of the game and give Kenyan football stakeholders the way forward but they have fallen short of their mandate only serving to bring more confusion in the game than there was before. The former president further added that the care taker committee should also be disbanded and the clubs to be allowed to run the league until normalcy is restored. He further suggested that the Kenyan government should deal with FIFA directly to so as to have a normalisation committee that will set the path for fresh elections.
