Following incidences of crowd trouble in the build up of the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium. The England FA was hit by sanctions.

England national football team manager, Gareth Southgate says that the country playing next month's Nations League match against Italy behind closed doors is an embarrassment. The game at Molineux on June 11 will be held without any fans in attendance. The Football Association was hit with sanctions following crowd trouble. The decision to impose the sanctions was informed by a number of incidences that happened during the Euro 2020 final that took place at Wembley Stadium where England faced off with Italy in a game that the latter won on penalties 3-2 after the match had ended on a 1-1 stalemate both at the regular time and extra time.

The Football Association was fined 84,560 Euros for the lack of order and discipline at the match. A number of ticketless fans running to hundreds got into the Wembley and some even fought with match stewards after areas around the stadium became packed to capacity hours before kick-off of the game. Many ticketless fans sat in the area that was preserved for the players' relatives and even Manchester United player Harry Maguire reported that his father suffered two suspected broken ribs that were occasioned before the game. The consequence of that fan's alteration was that England was punished with a two games ban on supporters with one of the matches suspended for two years. England will play 4 Nation League fixtures in June with away trips to Germany and Hungary before Italy makes a visit to London followed by a return match against the Hungarians on 14th June. The games come at the back of a domestic season which saw fans of various teams invade the pitches. This was witnessed right from the elite Premier League down to the lower-ranking leagues across the country.

Southgate called the recent unsavory incidents "a concern" and urged football to address the problem before it dictates changes to the match-going experience. England will be hosting the Women's European Championship and are part of the United Kingdom and Ireland's bid to host the 2028 Euros football tournament. England's national team manager now fears that they can lose out on that bid as the recent pitch invasions and further incidences of crowd trouble might work against them in the making of the decision leading up to the nation that will be given the hosting rights of the Euro 2028
