Soccer predictions, best bets today: Betting tips for Tonight, expert picks for games on Tuesday, October 11 | Sporting News
The UEFA Champions League returns on Tuesday for Matchday 4 and by now we've seen these teams enough to know what they're all about.
Sevilla are not very good this season, and it showed in their 4-1 home loss to Borussia Dortmund last week. There could be another walloping in store for the Spanish side when they face Dortmund again in Germany, at least according to one of our best bets.
PSG had a tough time with Benfica on the road last week, but now that they're back at home for the rematch, we can expect their star attacking trident to feature prominently. So are the betting markets, which is why there's a twist to the best bet for that match.
In other matches, Celtic (vs. RB Leipzig) and Maccabi Haifa (vs. Juventus) will be looking to spring the upset, relying on home field advantage against more vaunted sides.
Borussia Dortmund slaughtered Sevilla last time out, the latest in a long line of top European clubs to obliterate the struggling La Liga side. It cost Julien Lopetegui his job, maybe even a little too late. Jorge Sampaoli has returned to take over, but he has a lot of work to do.
He's already admitted the squad doesn't fit his style, and while they achieved a 1-1 draw with Athletic Club in his debut, the peripherals greatly favored the opponent, conceding an overwhelming 21 shots, as Sevilla were lucky to get out with a point. Dortmund are much more ruthless, knowing a point confirms a place in the Champions League knockout round alongside Man City.
Best Bet: Dortmund -1.5 goals spread (handicap)
PSG have slumped to two straight road draws, one without Lionel Messi providing his creative flair. Kylian Mbappe hasn't played well in either match, and Neymar hasn't been able to carry the team himself. That should change as the club returns to Parc des Princes with a chance to officially snag a Champions League knockout place.
The Brazilian should be up to the challenge and ready to get back on the scoresheet after a four-match layoff where he's accumulated 1.41 xG without scoring. While his odds to score are understandably low (-105), we can boost the return by specifying his favored right foot. He has shot more with his left this season than in years past, but still isn't very good at it, so play the odds to boost the potential payout.
Prediction (Win/Draw):PSG
Angel Di Maria to the rescue (again). Juventus were outclassed by AC Milan over the weekend without their star winger, and with little idea of what to do with the ball in possession. Di Maria will help some with that on the road, but Maccabi Haifa obviously know to target him, especially after what he did to them last week.
With the pressure of needing a victory on the road to have a realistic shot at the knockouts — Juventus have not won away from home this season, losing their last three — don't be surprised to see the Old Lady buckle against an energetic Maccabi Haifa team with nothing to lose. This will be the Israeli side's Champions League trophy if they can claim a major scalp in front of their home crowd.
Best Bet:Maccabi Haifa draw no bet (draw is a push)
Prediction (Win/Draw):Maccabi Haifa
