Gabriel Jesus has now officially joined Arsenal from Manchester City on a long-term deal. Jesus joined Manchester City at 19 years of age and during his six years tenure, he has scored 58 Premier League goals in 159 appearances. He has also won a total of 10 titles during his six years spell with City. He now becomes the fourth recruit of the Gunners after Marquinhos from Sao Paulo, Fabio Vieira from Porto, and Matt Turner from New England Revolution. This is what Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had to say on the recruitment; "I'm very excited. The club has done a tremendous job of recruiting a player of this stature. I know Gabriel personally well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and success here. This position has been on our radar for a long time, and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I'm really happy."
Mikel Arteta would regularly offer Jesus individual coaching and advice when serving as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Gabriel Jesus had already made clear his intentions to move to Arsenal as early as the beginning of June. On leaving Man City, Jesus had this to say; "It's been a pleasure to play for Manchester City. I feel like I am a better player now than when I arrived - and to win 11 trophies has been amazing. My four Premier League titles are particularly special for me. I want to thank everyone at City - the manager, my teammates and the fans - for all the support they have given me over the past five-and-a-half years." Arteta's side were in need of a striker after Alexandre Lacazette returned to Lyon on a free transfer this summer while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona for free in January.
Arsenal's technical director had this to say on Gabriel Jesus' signing; "We are delighted we have secured the transfer of Gabriel. Everyone who knows football well, knows his qualities. Gabriel is a player who we have admired for a long time now. He is 25 years and an established Brazil international who has consistently demonstrated that he is a player at a very high level. We look forward to seeing him join up with his new teammates ahead of the new season. We all welcome Gabriel to Arsenal."
