Manchester United new boss Erik Ten Hag has told his club captain that it is up to him to perform better on the pitch in order to silence his critics. This comes after the English player was booed by United fans during their game with Crystal Palace in Australia as they continue with their pre-season tour. The England center-back has been struggling in the recent past including in this past season and he has been booed by fans occasionally. The jeering has followed him to Australia, where Maguire was targeted by a smattering of fans in their 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in Melbourne. This is what Maguire had to say following the jeering; "We heard. But you see, if you perform, it slows down. It's about how can we change it. The team and Harry can by performing, and that is the only focus." United have been on a winning streak of three games under their new disciplinarian registering victories over Liverpool, Crystal Palace, and Melbourne Victory. This is serving to give United players confidence ahead of the upcoming season that begins on August 5th.
United have been chasing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Ten Hag is said to be considering other options just in case the deal fails to materialize. They have already signed left-back Tyrell Malacia, center-back Lisandro Martinez, and playmaker Christian Eriksen. "We signed Eriksen for the midfield department, so we are really happy with that. We need more options where you have a good team, and it's not only about the team, you need a good squad to get the right results at the end of the season. So we have to strengthen the squad even more and we are looking around, but we also need the right players," Erik Ten Hag said concerning his movements in the current transfer market.
The Red Devils also appear to be soldering on without Cristiano Ronaldo as he has not joined them for their preseason tour ever since he asked to leave Old Trafford. He is reportedly missing the tour due to "a family issue". The new boss at United, however, said that he will focus on working with those who are available for the task ahead saying that he is not much concerned with the absence of the Portuguese star. "I focus on the players who are there, they are doing really well, they are in good shape. I prefer to focus on that and develop that. I cannot wait for him to come in, then we will integrate him," Ten Hag said concerning Ronaldo.
