In a ruling delivered by Football Kenya Federation, the 12-time champions have been slapped with a number of sanctions amongst them playing their next home matches behind closed doors.

AFC Leopards have been hit with a half-a-million shilling fine and three points deduction over Sunday's aborted FKF Premier League fixture against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bikhungu Stadium. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Committee ruled in favour of Homeboyz and awarded the club a home win on a three points basis and a two goals basis. Furthermore, the committee has ruled that Leopards play their next consecutive league home matches behind closed doors without fans and directed that it is the responsibility of the club to ensure that the order is in force.

In addition to the aforementioned sanctions, Leopards have also been ordered to cater or refund the incurred medical costs by the Center referee Mr. Michael Obuya and also disciplinary proceedings be opened against Mr. Patrick Aussems and Mr. Lawrence Webo for their conduct in the said match against Homeboyz.

The match was abandoned amid a chaotic pitch invasion by fans who were irked and incensed by a referring decision late in the first half where the hosts Kakamega Homeboyz were leading 1-0. Michael Obuya the center referee had failed to penalize Homeboyz goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo for allegedly handling the ball outside his box causing dissent and eventually sparking the invasion. The ugly scenes that followed thereafter caused the Kakamega Homeboyz supporters to react by engaging their AFC Leopards counterparts in stone-throwing and running battles. Police who had been deployed to ensure order during the match was forced to call for backup and even further forced to fire teargas to disperse the football fanatics who had gone ahead to block the busy Kakamega-Webuye highway. The FKF has a long way to go in ending hooliganism in Kenyan football and ensuring sanity and integrity on the pitch.
