Inter Milan will soon be aiming for UEFA Champions League glory as they prepare to face Premier League champions Manchester City in Instanbul but will first want to pocket the Coppa Italia tonight at the Stadio Olimpico as they battle it out with Fiorentina who will be looking to end their 22-years cup drought. In addition to knocking out their arch-rivals Ac Milan in the Champions League semi-finals, Inter also took delight in eliminating old foes Juventus in the Coppa Italia last four when the two Calcio giants met last month. They also so off Juventus in the last year's final and again defeated AC Milan in January to lift the Supercoppa Italia. There is no doubt that Simone Inzaghi has made the Nerrazurri cup-hunting specialist with Parma and Atalanta both having had a taste of their wrath.
Inter are still closing in on a top-four finish in the Serie A, thanks to the inconsistencies that they have shown in the league this season. They recently suffered their 12th defeat after a 3-1 loss to Italian champions Napoli. Therefore, there is plenty of pressure on Inzaghi to claim silverware this season after such a lackluster league campaign. However, if he manages victory in Rome today and then in Istanbul next month, he will see his name join that of Jose Mourinho who was the 2010 treble winner at the club.
Fiorentina have always played second fiddle in the shadow of their Turin counterparts Juventus but more recently the Tuscan club have begun to close the gap just a little under the tutelage of Vincenzo Italiano. Since the arrival of the former Spezia boss at the club in September 2021, Fiorentina have played some spectacular football and are now only two games away from Double cup glory. Just like their tonight's rivals Inter Milan, they also progressed to a European Cup final last week as they advanced to the Europa Conference League final game where they are set to face West Ham in Prague next month.
Although Fiorentina's Serie A season has been somehow disappointing, they will go down in history should events unfold in their favour over the next fortnight if they can lift both the Coppa Italia and the Europa Conference League. It is worth noting that Fiorentina won nine out of ten matches leading into their semi-final tie with giant-killers Cremonese, who had already knocked out both Napoli and Roma. It is a case of all or nothing in their search for a cup as they seek to end more than a two-decade trophy drought ever since they lifted the Coppa Italia back in 2001 when Roberto Mancini's side beat Parma.
