Kakamega Homeboyz have compiled evidence to challenge the newly crowned FKF Premier League champions, Tusker FC as league winners. The Brewers garnered 66 points to retain the title on the final day of the season. Homeboyz also gathered the same number of points but lost the league title on goal difference. The runners-up have now cited four matches that ended in a controversial manner and no verdict about their complaints are yet to be reached as the reason they are moving to court to challenge the decision the FKF Caretaker Committee made to crown Tusker FC as champions. Tusker now have 13 Kenya Premier League (KPL) titles.
Homeboyz have pointed out the game involving Gor Mahia vs Vihiga Bullets which was played on February 8th. They argue that the match was abandoned after crowd trouble and the FKF Caretaker Committee never delivered a ruling concerning the fixture. Another fixture in question is the Ulinzi Stars vs Sofapaka game that was played on January 8th. Sofapaka refused to play the game as they protested that the home team had made inadequate procurement of ambulance. The third match involves Ulinzi Stars vs AFC Leopards played on March 9th. The visiting team protested that the home team had inadequate procurement of ambulance and thus refused to play. The final fixture was between Tusker FC vs Gor Mahia played on April 9th. Gor Mahia launched a complaint concerning crowd trouble about a goal scored by the home team but the outcome of their complaint was yet to be made known to the general public.
Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has confirmed that the club is heading to the Sports Disputes Tribunal to challenge the crowning of Tusker FC as the FKF Premier League champions. This is what he had to say; “It is true we have compiled our evidence and before the end of this week, we will file the protest with Sports Disputes Tribunal. We have four matches whose case had not been decided but they moved ahead to coronate Tusker, we don’t know what criteria they used to reach the decision [to confirm Tusker as champions] whereas the outcome of the cases was yet to be determined.” The Chairman further added that the FKF Caretaker Committee should repossess the 2 million Kenyan shillings and the trophy handed over to Tusker.
