Lionel Messi's spectacular brace helped Inter Miami seal a dramatic win against FC Dallas to secure a place in the last eight of the Leagues Cup on Sunday.

As the clock ticked towards the end of the game with only ten minutes left of play, FC Dallas seemed to have booked their spot into the quarter-finals as they were leading 4-2 against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami. The former Barcelona and Paris St-Germain forward opened the scoring after six minutes, sweeping a curling shot inside the near post from outside the penalty area, but Dallas were 3-1 ahead with just over an hour played. Benjamin Cremaschi then reduced the deficit to 3-2. Robert Taylor's own goal restored Dallas' two-goal cushion before Marco Farfan headed a Messi cross into his own net to make it 4-2.

World champion Lionel Messi then went ahead to do his thing with only two minutes of play left. He converted a stunning free-kick into a marvelous goal that forced the game to go into extra time. The Argentine superstar now has seven goals in just four appearances for the club. The game proceeded to a penalty shootout where Messi lead his pack and kept his composure from 12 yards to convert his kick into a goal setting the pace for all his teammates who followed thereafter.

Messi's Inter Miami are now the first club to secure a place in the final eight of the Leagues Cup competition which was established in the year 2019 comprising of teams from the USA and Mexico and the competition is in a knockout format. Lionel Messi seems to be having the time of his life in the USA and it appears as though he has rediscovered that form he had in Barcelona that was briefly lost during his stay at French capital giants PSG. He is now on course to secure another cup to his name after conquering the world in the Qatar FIFA 2022 World Cup where he lead his Argentina teammates to secure football's most coveted trophy.
