The Reds and the Blues will be meeting for the fourth time this season, this time in the Emirates FA Cup final. This comes a few months after they squared it out in the EFL Carabao Cup final where Liverpool edged out Chelsea on penalty kicks. The FA Cup is the only silverware that Chelsea are hoping to win this season. Liverpool on the other hand is in chase of a quadruple having already clinched the Carabao Cup and are set to face Real Madrid at the UEFA Champions League final at the end of the season not forgetting that they are in the Premier League title race challenging title holders Manchester City.
Liverpool survived a UCL knock-out scare from Villarreal and they needed a brilliant second-leg comeback in the second half of the second fixture in order to confirm their place in the finals. They have recently dropped points in the EPL title race when they were held in a 1-1 draw with top-four chasing Tottenham Hotspur who are in a fierce fight for a UCL spot with Arsenal. Jurgen Klopp had never taken the Reds beyond the fifth round of the FA Cup until this season and since the EPL title might be slipping away from them, he will be looking to take get this title in their trophy cabinet. Thomas Tuchel on the other hand has certainly not forgotten that it is Liverpool who denied him the Carabao Cup trophy and will be aiming at exacting revenge on them. And what revenge is sweeter than denying them a cup?
Chelsea's FA Cup dreams have been dashed in their past two finals and the Blues and the Blues are out to show that this time around they have the much-needed charm and they can not be thrice unlucky. Chelsea are currently the club world cup holders but certainly, their days to enjoy this glory are numbered since they exited the UCL at the quarter-final stage following a knock-out from eventual finalists Real Madrid. For a long time this season, the Blues have had a firm grip on the position 3 of the EPL table but now they are threatened with a top-four rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham that can leave them as casualties.
The Blues could take some inspiration from the statistics that no team has ever suffered three consecutive FA Cup final defeats since the turn of the millennium. The Reds on the other hand will be aiming not to fall far from their target by at least getting half the trophies that they have been chasing all along this season. As both these two great teams prepare to face off with each other, it is not clear which team has the advantage of clinching victory since they enjoy equal football strengths, but what is clear, however, is that it will be an entertaining and mind-blowing clash to watch.
