Liverpool winning streak in the UEFA Champions League came to a disappointing end at the Anfield Stadium when they survived a Champions League exit scare from Simeone Inzaghi's Inter Milan who thrashed them 1-0 just one minute before Alexis Sanchez was sent off. Martinez gave Alisson no chance with an arrowed finish from 20 yards in the 61st minute. The reds hit the wood work three times in a game that not only saw former Arsenal and Manchester United forward sent off the pitch but also other six players booked. The game had earlier been interrupted in the first half due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
This was Liverpool's first home defeat in more than a year ever since Fulham's surprise victory at Anfield back in 7th March 2021. Liverpool was on a run of 28 games unbeaten at home with 21 wins and 7 draws. This was Inter Milan's first victory over the reds ever since 1965. Jurgen Klopp's men however, won the round of 16 fixtures with an aggregate of 2-1 to advance to Champions League quarter finals for the fourth time in the past five seasons. Liverpools hopes of winning a quadruple therefore, are still alive after bagging the Carabao cup already and are in the Emirates FA Cup quarter finals and at the same time giving Manchester City an insane chase for the Premier League title.
