Premier League champions Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Erling Haaland after they unveiled him today at the Etihad Stadium. The 21-year-old has finally been unveiled as a City player after a deal was reached last month to have him move to Manchester from Borussia Dortmund. The announcement had been delayed as the Norwegian striker had undergone a medical in Barcelona before enjoying a holiday in Marbella. Haaland is delighted to have joined Manchester City and is looking forward to working with his manager, Pep Guardiola together with his new teammates. Haaland signed for Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg and Manchester City have bought him way much below his market value as they have triggered his buying clause that was stipulated in his Dortmund contract.
This is what Haaland had to say upon his unveiling; “This is a proud day for me and my family. I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me. There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfill my ambitions. I want to score goals, win trophies, and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me, and I can’t wait to get started in the pre-season." The Norwegian had hinted on his big unveiling over the weekend by posting a throwback photo of himself wearing a Manchester City shirt as a young child. His father Alfie Haaland who is a retired professional footballer played with the Citizens at that time.
Manchester City unveiled Haaland by recreating another now infamous image of Haaland wearing City’s 2008-09 shirt as a child – which showed the youngster sitting down on a sofa. Haaland has now penned a five-year deal after arriving for £51million with him signing on fee and agents’ fees in the region of £34m. He now arrives at Etihad as City's first official singing since the opening of the transfer window. Julian Alvarez is set to join him as he had earlier agreed to a deal with City back in January moving from Argentinian club River Plate. Pep Guardiola has been chasing on a striker ever since Sergio Aguero left the club for Barcelona but missed out on Tottenham's Harry Kane.
