Manchester City were ruthlessly merciless to Southampton as they hammered them 4-1 to eliminate them from the FA Cup in front of their own fans at St. Marys Stadium. Raheem Sterling's strike in the 12th minute gave City the lead before an unfortunate own goal from Aymeric Laporte with helped the Saints level up matters before the break. However, after the break, a well taken penalty from City's star Kevin de Bruyne put the Citizens roaring back into the game before Phil Foden stretched the lead at the 75th minute. Riyad Mahrez completed the demolition with a fourth three minutes later to ensure City knocked Southampton out of the FA Cup as the English Champions progress to the semi-finals of England's oldest footballing competition.
City will now face Liverpool in the semi-finals who eliminated a stubborn Nottingham Forest by beating them 1-0 courtesy of Diogo Jota's 78th minute strike. Nottingham Forest had enjoyed arguably the better of the game and even moments earlier had passed up a golden chance to take the lead themselves as Philip Zinckernagel missed the target. Liverpool will now face their title rivals Manchester City in a tasty semi final at the Wembley Stadium. This event will happen just a weekend after the pair go head to head in the return leg of the Premier League.
Elsewhere, Crystal Palace humiliated Everton 4-0 at home to progress to the next round of the FA Cup. They will now have a hill to climb at the Wembley Stadium semi finals as they face Chelsea who eliminated Middlesbrough following Romelu Lukaku's strike in the 15th minute before Hakim Ziyech doubled up just one minute passed the half an hour mark.
