It is arguably the oldest and longest rivalry in the history of the Premier League, The Manchester United-Arsenal rivalry. The two nemesis teams reached the apex of their rivalry during the reigns of Sir Alex Ferguson as the Manchester United manager and Arsene Wenger as the Arsenal manager. The two teams will again renew hostilities on Saturday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium in a clash that will potentially make or break their hopes for a top-four finish as they both aim to play in the next season's UEFA Champions League.
The Gunners who are sitting 5th in the EPL enter the match in high spirits after coming from thrashing Chelsea 4-2 while Manchester United, 6th on the table comes aching from a 4-0 defeat from Liverpool. From the depths of despair to the highs of heroism, Arsenal had been defeated in their last three EPL games before bouncing back with a heroic win over Chelsea. Arsenal, therefore, has a real momentum behind them going into the game while the Red Devils come from a long line of hilarious collapses with the Liverpool defeat only serving as the latest embarrassment.
With both teams setting their eyes on the number 4 EPL spot that is also being contested by Tottenham, the match is expected to be very contentious as three points will mean that a team is making the next season's UCL spots a reality. Manchester United's chances of ending a miserable run are rather slim, however, considering that the Gunners are unbeaten at home in three games this season against their top-four rivals. The caretaker manager Michael Carrick, however, did oversee a 3-2 victory to see his former side overcome the Gunners at the Old Trafford in the first leg of the season.
