The UEFA Nations League continues as group A2 leaders Portugal face off with the bottom of the group Switzerland. The latter chances of progressing to the Nations League finals have always been considered remote and their recent dissatisfying results could seal their fate of being relegated to the UEFA Nations League group B. Switzerland have been ever-present in group A ever since the Nations League was founded but are surely fearing for their safety in the top tier league now. They really need the confidence before they test their mettle in Qatar in the FIFA World Cup slated to happen later in the year from November and December. They are now on a run of four defeats and one draw in their last five matches.
Portugal have one foot already in the finals of the 2022-23 Nations League. They can steer further clear of Iberian counterparts Spain at the top of the rankings this week and were in no mood to suffer any scares against a resilient Czech Republic side last time out. They now hold a two points lead over Spain at the top of the rankings. Spain are, however, expected to go passed the Czech Republic on their own turf as they face off later tonight. The onus is on Portugal to avoid a shocking result as they face a desperate Switzerland in Geneva. In their recent five games, Portugal have registered 4 wins and 1 draw contrary to the poor performance of their night's opponents.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be the man to watch tonight as the pressure will be on him to deliver the win to Portugal and seal their spot as group leaders. Portugal crashed Switzerland 4-0 a week ago although their most recent trip to Swiss turf in 2018 saw them suffer a 2-0 loss in the hands of the Swiss in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers game.
