Newcastle renew hostilities with Borussia Dortmund tonight with revenge on their agenda tonight at the Signal Iduna Park in a Champions League group F match.

Newcastle were subjected to their first European loss of the season against the German giants two weeks ago as they went down 1-0 following a goal by Nmecha. Even the fearsome Dortmund defenders may have boarded their flights to St. James Park with a palpable sense of dread a fortnight ago, having seen Newcastle rip French champions Paris Saint-Germain apart on matchday two, but Terzic's rock-solid defense brought their hosts' momentum to a halt. Newcastle was a shell of the team that defeated PSG by four goals as they had no answer for Dortmund's defensive prowess, and in the 45th minute, Nico Schlotterbeck charged down the other end of the field and lay the ball on a plate for Felix Nmecha to score the game-winning goal.

Dortmund are now level with Newcastle on four points in this year's group of death, having shared the Magpies' record of one win, one draw, and one loss from their first three games. BVB have the advantage over their English counterparts due to the head-to-head column, while leaders PSG are only two points ahead of Terzic's crop. The German powerhouses will become the second Bundesliga side, after Bayern Munich, to play 150 Champions League games this week, but they were served a slice of humble pie by their Harry Kane-inspired superiors in Saturday's latest edition of Der Klassiker.  Indeed, after Dayot Upamecano's early header, a fantastic treble from the England captain condemned Dortmund to a harrowing 4-0 loss to the champions at Signal Iduna Park, as the hosts' eight-game unbeaten run across all tournaments came to an end in excruciating circumstances, and their vengeful opponents also know a thing or two about ending unblemished streaks.

Akin to their January slog with Arsenal, where perceived gamesmanship played a part in Newcastle coming away with a point in a 0-0 draw, a similar story unfolded on the defensive front during Saturday's showdown with the Gunners at St James' Park, as Howe's troops kept their Martin Odegaard-less visitors at bay with relative ease. However, officiating controversy would inevitably rear its ugly head, as after Kai Havertz and Bruno Guimaraes narrowly avoided red cards during a tense first 45 minutes, Newcastle would hand Arsenal their first top-flight defeat of the season via Anthony Gordon's highly contentious winger. Newcastle's strike was confirmed after three VAR checks, which determined that the ball did not go out of play, Joelinton did not commit a foul on Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gordon was not in an offside position, prompting Arteta to launch a ruthless verbal assault on the standard of Premier League officiating at full time.

Newcastle celebrated another magnificent week, having also avenged last year's EFL Cup final loss to Manchester United by crushing the hopeless holders 3-0 at Old Trafford in the fourth round and ending a 20-year streak without a Champions League away win is the next priority on Howe's to-do list. Sir Bobby Robson led a 3-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen in February 2003, and Howe might potentially follow in the footsteps of his late compatriot as the second English manager to win a Champions League away game against a Bundesliga team.
