Real Madrid, the current reigning UEFA Champions League champions have already qualified for this season's round of 16 knockout stages as they seat on top of group F four points clear from second-placed RB Leipzig. The German side has collected six points in the competition after winning two games and drawing two of their matches. They are one point ahead of third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk ahead of the next set of games. Shakhtar will be heading to Celtic on Tuesday with the Ukrainian side looking for their second victory in the competition. If Leipzig manages to beat Real Madrid and Shakhtar loses to Celtic, then the German outfit will have secured their spot in the next round of the competition.
Leipzig opened their UCL campaign with back-to-back defeats from Shakhtar and Real Madrid, a situation that placed them in a very difficult position in terms of reaching the next round but the back-to-back wins over Celtic earned them crucial six points that have now placed them currently at position 2 on their group table. The German outfit are now unbeaten in their last seven games including their most recent match against Augsburg on Saturday which ended in a 3-3 stalemate. They are currently in the eighth position on the Bundesliga table.
Real Madrid have picked up ten points in their opening four UCL games giving them a throughway into the next round of the competition. They beat Celtic, Leipzig, and Shakhtar in their opening three games but needed a last-minute equalizer against Shakhtar to end the match in a 1-1 draw which proved to be enough to get them to the round of 16 of the competition. The title holders will be confirmed as group winners if they avoid defeat in this game but even if Leipzig were to pull off a surprise win, they still will have a chance to be confirmed as group winners at the Santiago Bernabeu when they face Celtic for their final group stage game.
The Los Blancos remain to be unbeaten in all competitions this season winning 3-1 against Sevilla in their most recent LaLiga game which saw them open up a six points advantage over their bitter rivals and second-placed Barcelona on the LaLiga table. Real Madrid have another five games to play before they break for the FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup. They will take on Leipzig and Celtic in the UEFA Champions League in addition to Girona, Rayo Vallecano, and Cadiz in the LaLiga.
