Senegal international forward Sadio Mane has been linked with a move to German powerhouse Bayern Munich from Liverpool. His contract at Anfield is expiring at the end of June next year and he has reportedly told the club that he is not signing an extension and he would wish to leave. The Premier League club are said to have turned down two advances from Bayern for the 30-year-old, who has lifted six major trophies in as many seasons with Liverpool. Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has encouraged Mane to sign for Bayern Munich as it represents the best option for his career if he wants a move away from Liverpool.
Cisse says, "I tell my boys to try to work out the contract issues so that when their respective championships resume, they will have already found a base. I heard about Sadio at Bayern. For me, it is a club that is of its standing. Bayern is intense, pressing football with a German coach. Sadio played in Salzburg in Austria, which is a border country, and that means he is not going into unknown territory. For me, the club where he will feel the best is Bayern." Cisse lead the Senegal team to lift the AFCON trophy where they beat Egypt on penalties in the final match.
Mane has had 196 Premier League appearances for Liverpool and he has scored 90 goals in those appearances. He joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2016. Only Tottenham's Harry Kane (134), teammate Mohamed Salah (118), and Leicester City's Jamie Vardy (108), have more goals than him in the EPL competition ever since he joined the Reds from the Saints. Liverpool now appear to be close to signing Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as a replacement for Mane. Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has suggested that the club is considering multiple options as a replacement for departing Robert Lewandowski who is being wooed by Catalonia giants Barcelona.
