Ahead of facing the Reds at Anfield, Antonio Conte has come out to say that Tottenham needs to make a very heavy investment in the rebuilding of the squad if they are to compete effectively at elite level of club football. Tottenham is set to meet a Liverpool side that has not tasted defeat in the last 15 league games. Liverpool are currently in the chase of a quadruple as they have already won the EFL Carabao Cup, are in the FA Cup final, have managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League final, and are only one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Conte has now said that though Spurs are considered to be one of the elite clubs in the EPL competition, they still lack the strength to compete with the other big boys in the league and even the big boys of Europe generally. They are currently locked in a battle with rivals Arsenal for the number four slot that will guarantee them a place in next season's UCL campaign. Conte now insists that in order for Spurs to reach their optimum level of performance then big money investments need to be made in the transfer market. Tottenham are currently relying on the goal-scoring prowess of their top duo Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane who have 19 goals and 13 goals respectively.
The Tottenham boss now says that if his team is to move from being a middle team and reduce the gap between it and the top two teams that are currently competing for the Premier League, then a lot of money needs to be spent to purchase important players in the few coming transfer windows. His argument appears to have a basis, however, since Tottenham is the only elite club in English football that are yet to lift a single trophy.
