sokapro-Mburu delivers Silver for Kenya as Uganda's Cheptegei defends 10,00m title.

Stanley Waithaka Mburu went through a lot of hurdles during the 10,000m race to secure a second place finish and make the country proud as he bagged the silver.

After Haile Gebrselassie, Kenenisa Bekele, and Mo Farah, Joshua Cheptegei became the fourth back-to-back winner of the 10,000m race. The Ugandan athlete won the gold medal in Oregon in the United States in the World Athletics Championship. 22-year-old Stanley Waithaka Mburu made Kenya proud when he won the silver medal after producing a massive performance in a star-studded field. Mburu was lined up against the defending champion Joshua Cheptegei, Olympics champion Selemon Barega, Olympics bronze medalist and half marathon record holder Jacob Kiplimo as well as 2019 world bronze medalist Rodgers Kwemoi. He was tripped more than once in the early stages of the race but that did not stop him from clocking 27:27.90 to grab Kenya's third medal at the championship.

Mburu first enjoyed international success at home when Kenya hosted the U-18 championships in 2017 bagging the bronze medal behind Barega who won the gold medal and Edward Zakayo who got the silver in the 3000m race. He then went ahead to upgrade his bronze medal to silver in Finland in 2018 after he finished second in the World U-20 5000m race as he finished behind Zakayo. He then proceeded to move to the senior ranks and has now managed to bag yet another silver medal for the country in Oregon, United States of America. Defending champion Cheptegei who was under immense pressure from the star-filled track managed to clock 27:27.43 as Kiplimo clocked 27:27.97 to complete the podium finish.

Eighteen minutes into the race, Uganda's Cheptegei took the lead from teammate Kiplimo, who had been leading throughout earlier as the Kenyan trio of Stanley Waithaka Mburu, Mateiko, and Kemboi raced behind Barega who was in second place. Mburu, who had been tripped early in the race and almost fell assumed the role of pace setter with two laps to race but took the bell in third place, having to put up an astonishing finishing kick to settle for silver behind the defending champion Cheptegei. We say Congratulations to Stanley Mburu for making the nation proud.
