As the title race is approaching a thrilling conclusion, Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa could be the one to deny or give either Manchester City or Liverpool the crown. Two of Villa's final four games are against these two teams. Gerrard was part of a Liverpool side who were three games from winning the title in 2014, only for his infamous slip to help Chelsea to victory at Anfield as City ended up finishing top instead. City leads Liverpool with three points after they crashed Newcastle 5-0 and Liverpool failed to beat Tottenham after a 1-1 draw.
Gerrard took charge of Aston Villa in November when they were just two points above the relegation zone. He has now steered the club to position 11. Aston Villa are set to face Liverpool tonight and they will battle it out with Manchester City at the end of the season. They are currently eyeing a top ten finish and if they manage to win on both occasions this will steer them to achieving their dreams. Liverpool supporters currently view Gerrard as Jurgen Klopp's natural heir. Aston Villa made some quality signings during the January transfer window amongst them Phillipe Coutinho who joined the club from Barcelona. The new singings have been very instrumental in the push to save face from relegation.
Both Manchester City and Liverpool know how stubborn Aston Villa can be as they have faced their resistance already during the first leg of the campaign. In addition to making life difficult for the Reds at Anfield five months ago, Villa pushed City all the way before losing 2-1 at home to Pep Guardiola's team. Gerrard will even be more busier to change and add quality in his squad as another transfer season is looming.
