As Lionel Messi was in tears bidding Barcelona farewell in August, hundreds of thousands of multitudes were waiting for his arrival in Paris as news had just hit the media stations that he had agreed to a deal with Paris Saint Germain. As expected from a player of his stature, his arrival in the French capital was greeted with massive crowds and street parties. Fans were going wild as they could not believe that the greatest of the game was going to showcase his talent at their own Parc de Princess. Things however, have not gone down well with him yet, as his fans might have expected. Now, just seven months on, he is being met with boos from PSG supporters. 

The football genius was viewed as the missing piece in the Les Parisiens' puzzle to lift the UEFA Champions League cup. The dramatic elimination they faced from Real Madrid following a second half second leg come back, thanks to Karim Benzema's hat-trick only served to do the Argentine alot of harm as all the blame seem to be falling squarely on him as the PSG fans expected much from his football magic. Holding a two-goal aggregate lead over Real Madrid going into the final half-hour of their last-16 tie, the Les Parisiens failed to defend their lead although they had the Messi, Mbappe, Neymar trio on the pitch. Their elimination saw Messi and Neymar being booed in their next game with Bordeaux despite them winning.

Following the tribulations that the game's great is facing, now his former team mate and current Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandes has suggested that the Barca icon is always welcome in Catalonia raising speculations of whether he will dump his deal at the French capital to return to the Catalan giants. Xavi knows well what he is saying and his words can not be taken lightly, having played almost 400 games with Messi during a trophy-laden time at Barca, you may be hard pressed to find a manager who knows better how to get the most out of the magician.

The Catalan giants arch rivals, Real Madrid are said to have already reached at a deal with Kylian Mbappe. Barcelona are now pursuing hard to get Erling Haaland who might also reportedly sign for the Los Blancos. If such a scenario is to happen, Barcelona will pull all strings that they can to get their icon back at the Camp Nou in order to keep pace with their LaLiga rivals. Barcelona are desperate to announce themselves as ‘big boys’ ones again and it will not be surprising to see them try everything possible to have their hero return back to them.
