The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) transition committee has canceled the constitutional amendment forum that was to be held on Wednesday.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transitional Committee has called off the constitutional amendment forum that was to be held on the 20th of July in Nairobi citing unavoidable circumstances. The Moses Oyugi-led committee had invited clubs and all other football stakeholders involved for a meeting that would see the constitution draft passed and adopted as the new FKF Constitution. Stakeholders had, however, already termed the exercise as a futility as only the general assembly can amend the constitution and now the Transitional Committee seems to have retreated back on the said action after announcing that the exercise has been canceled. In a letter signed by the chairperson of the committee retired general Maurice Oyugi, the committee said it had been forced to call off the exercise due to unavoidable circumstances and regretted any inconveniences caused to the stakeholders. Their mandate will be coming to an end on the 14th of August, five days after the country holds its general election and it remains to be seen whether they will eventually hold the forum.

The letter by the committee read; “This is in reference to the notice given if the FKF Draft Constitution Validation forum to be held on 20th of July 2022. Please note that due to unavoidable circumstances, the forum has been postponed and the Transition Committee will soon communicate a new date. Any inconvenience is regretted. Your continued support is most appreciated.” The developments come at a time when there is an ongoing push and pull between the committee and the FKF Management Committee over who will be in charge of football in the nation. The management committee led by Robert Macharia insists that the Transitional Committee will have to exit once its mandate comes to an end on the 14th of August. The management committee vice chairperson said; “There is no turning back. As branches, we can’t just watch as our league is being mismanaged and when the term of the Transition Committee ends, they should cease managing the league. We are also in consultation with clubs and will release our fixtures after the burial of the Kisumu Branch chairman.” Interested parties in matters pertaining to football in the country wait to see the direction that football governance will take come August 14th.
