Superstar players can at times be difficult characters to deal with, a good example is Cristiano Ronaldo who is giving Manchester United a hard time with his demands to leave the club yet the Red Devils are not ready to let go of him yet. Even the normally calm Robert Lewandowski forced his way out of Bayern Munich into Barcelona despite numerous attempts even by the club president and sporting director to keep him with the Bundesliga champions. Goalscorers are a unique breed and that can sometimes require special attention to keep them happy. Therefore, Manchester City are delighted at the pace with which their new signing Erling Haaland has quickly settled with the Premier League giants and already started executing the work that brought him to the club which is to score goals. Of course, the most substantial tests will come on the pitch, and more on that later, but the early days have shown the sort of promise that Mancity will have hoped for. It is worth mentioning that every major club in Europe registered an interest in one of the most talented young striker in the market but City were quick to secure a deal with him even before the close of last season's campaign.
Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe were the talks of transfer news towards the end of last season but unlike PSG who were successful in keeping their star player and denying Real Madrid a chance to sign him, Borussia Dortmund were unsuccessful in their attempt to keep Haaland and lost the battle to Manchester City. The bad thing is that they did not get the actual value of money the player is worth due to his release clause in his contract that forced them to accept £53m from the EPL champions. Manchester City found themselves a jewel considering the fact that before the beginning of last season they missed by a whisker to sign Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane, a deal that collapsed in the dying minutes before the close of the transfer window. In a summer without major international tournaments, Guardiola was able to take the majority of his senior squad away for pre-season to help with team bonding, as well as work on tactical initiatives. This is a move that has worked well for him to integrate his new catches into the team. Haaland is no stranger to moving clubs, of course, with City the fourth different team of his fledgling career, he was able to quickly blend in with his new teammates. He and fellow new signings Kalvin Phillips, Julian Alvarez, and Stefan Ortega have settled in quickly.
During their preseason tour, the players sat down for relaxed meals after training and, as per tradition, the new signings sang in front of their new team-mates, with Haaland's rendition of Enrique Iglesias's Hero described as "really good" by Phillips. On the final days of the tour, the players sang Haaland's anthem on his birthday dinner where he made a short speech thanking players and staff for welcoming him warmly to the club. Haaland will, however, feel the pressure to step up this season to fill in the void left by Gabriel Jesus who signed for Arsenal, and Raheem Sterling who proceeded to Chelsea. He had 85 goals in 88 Dortmund appearances which makes him a quality City signing. Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has always been on the hunt for a reliable striker since club legend Sergio Aguero left for Barcelona and it seems like he has now found one in Erling Haaland.
