Sunday 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Manchester City means that the Premier League title race is still wide open with only 7 games to go. The match that was deemed to be the title decider may not have decided anything after the blow of the whistle at the 90th minute. In Sunday's game, Kevin de Bruyne wasted no time as he opened the score sheet at the 5th minute following a classic assist from Bernado Silva. Eight minutes later, Diogo Jota showed yet again what a world-class player he was as he netted in the 13th minute from Alexander Arnold's assist. Gabriel Jesus scored City's second goal in the 36th minute, a goal that he was assisted by Cancelo. That was it for the first half as Liverpool went into the second half a goal down. Coming into the second half however, Liverpool duo Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane wasted no chance to level the score sheet in the 46th minute following an assist and a strike from the former and the latter respectively. That was it as the two teams called it a day in the scoreboard as the match ended in a 2-2 draw, arguably the best possible outcome of the game as both sides displayed quality play on the pitch.
The fact that City are a point ahead keeps them in the driving seat. They know that even if both them and their title rivals were to win the remaining seven games, that one point lead will guarantee them a fourth EPL title within a time span of five years. Manchester United and Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham, Aston Villa, Southampton and Wolves, all of them must be beaten if Jurgen Klopp's men dream make the Reds get their 20th title. Some of the above fixtures are very difficult considering that there are teams that are very much in the race to have a top four finish and there are others desperately in need to avoid being relegated to the Championship League.
It is agreed upon that Liverpool fixtures are trickier than City's as Pep Guardiola's men have to face Wolves, Brighton, Watford, Leeds, Newcastle, West Ham, and Aston Villa. West Ham, who are pushing to be in the UEFA Champions League next season are seen to be the only potential threat to City amongst the above-mentioned teams. For Liverpool, Tottenham are seen to be the ones to present the toughest remaining hurdle as Antonio Conte's men are very much in form with the trio of Harry Kane, Son-Heung Min, and Dejan Kulusevski posing as threats to any team that they face. The bottom line however is that this could be a repeat of the 2018-19 season where the EPl was decided on the last day of the campaign.
It is worth noting that both teams are facing a Champions League distraction this week although they are favourites to reach the semi-finals. Liverpool are are already two goals up Benfica while City travel to face Atletico Madrid in a tricky fixture as they are only one goal ahead of Diego Simeone's side. The Emirates FA Cup semifinal will happen this coming weekend and again the two teams City and Liverpool are pitted against each other and will face off on Saturday in Wembley Stadium not to mention a possibility of them meeting in the Champions League final in Paris at the end of May.
