As this season's UEFA Champions League enters into the semifinals before going to the homestretch, teams across Europe have already started qualifying for next season's campaign that will consist of 32 teams. Out of these 32 teams, 26 clubs qualify for the competition directly following the merit of the positions they finish at in their domestic leagues by the season's end. So far, ten teams have already been known to be in next season's campaign with the rest of the slots still up for grabs.
Out of the 32 UCL participants, 24 come directly through local top-tier league competitions, Another 6 come in through qualifications while the remaining two slots are reserved for the winners of the Champions League itself and their counterparts in the Europa League but this depends on the outcome. The English Premier League, Spanish LaLiga, German Bundesliga, and Italian Serie A produce four teams each, in the competition. The French Ligue1 and the Primeira Liga of Portugal produce two teams each (with the French going directly to the third if the Europa League is won by a club that has already secured the Champions League through the championship). Austria, Belgium, Scotland, and the Netherlands produce one team each.
So far, ten teams are already known to have qualified for the next season's tournament. In the EPL there are the top two rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool both of whom are still in this season's semifinals battling it out for a ticket to the final. In the Serie A, there are the city rivals, Inter Milan and AC Milan who are still scrambling to be the Italian kings come to the end of the season. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have already sailed through from the Bundesliga as they are undisputedly first and second respectively. The Ligue1 champions, Paris Saint Germain have also been confirmed while the LaLiga top of the table, Real Madrid are also have also booked themselves a spot not forgetting they are still battling for the continental glory in this season's campaign. Porto and Salzburg are the other confirmed sides.
A few teams are close to qualifying among them, LaLiga possible runners-up, Sevilla and Barcelona the Catalan giants. Chelsea who have stamped their authority at the EPL position three are also very close to being certified. Juventus, Napoli, Marseille, Ajax, Celtic, and Sporting Lisbon are all awaiting certification. In the EPL, Arsenal and Tottenham will be fighting it hard for a place in next season's UCL while Manchester United have been ruled out as not being serious contenders. Atletico Madrid and Real Betis will also have to play a few more LaLiga matches in order for it to be clear which one of them will get the direct ticket while it is a tough battle between Leverkusen, Leipzig, and Freiburg in the Bundesliga deciders.
