sokapro-Manchester United vs Omonia: Can the team from Cyprus stop the English team from securing top spot in group E?

The Red Devils are well-fancied to claim three points in the Europa League against the lowest-ranked team in the group, Omonia Nicosia.

On Thursday night in the Europa League, Manchester United will host Omonia Nicosia at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag's team looks for their third victory in Group E. The Reds were 3-2 winners when they faced the Cypriot side last week and are huge favourites to record another success against Neil Lennon's men. United will endeavor to ramp up the pressure on Real Sociedad who are close contestants for the top spot in group E as well. However, Erik ten Hag's substitutions last week were highly effective, as a brace from Marcus Rashford and a goal from Anthony Martial, a fellow substitute, turned the game around before Nikolas Panagiotou scored even another consolation for the hosts.

When Man United began their Premier League responsibilities against a tenacious Everton team, another comeback attempt was on the schedule. Everton had taken the lead through Alex Iwobi before Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo answered for Man United right before halftime. Man United's disastrous start to the season is now a thing of the past, as they are currently fifth in the Premier League standings, firmly in the Champions League conversation. They have, however, only managed to grab six points from their three games making them scramble for the top position alongside an almost perfect Real Sociedad. Ten Hag will be concerned by the nine goals they have given up in their last three games in all competitions, even though defensive absentees have played a key role in that.

While Omonia can be lauded for troubling the Man United defense in front of their ardent fanbase last week, spirit and passion does not win points but goals do and the side is without a single one of points. Lennon's men have scored just three goals and conceded eight in successive losses to Sheriff Tiraspol, Real Sociedad and now Man United to languish to fourth place in the group. If they are defeated in tonight's match, the visitor's hopes to finish in the top two slots will have vanished.

Defeat to AEL marked the fourth loss from five away fixtures for Omonia, who have not won a European game on the road since defeating Shamrock Rovers in 1987 - one of only two victories away from home for the side on the continent. Omonia must accomplish something no other Cyprus team has ever done: defeat an English club on the road. If they are to shock the world and split Europa League Group E wide open against Man United.
