Porto are currently three points adrift of Benfica, who currently sit top of the league table after dropping only two points this season. Porto may be in second place ahead of O Classico, but they head into the contest in imperious form after winning their last five games in all competitions. Since they were last involved in league action, Porto have won 3-0 away to Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League and thrashed Anadia 6-0 in in the Taca de Portugal competition.

Four of their last five contests have, however, ended in a stalemate after 90 minutes but it is worth noting that two of the draws have come against European powerhouse and French giants Paris Saint Germain. In their most recent draw, Benfica were held 1-1 in the Taca de Portugal competition by Caldas, which is a third-tier team. The draw came after 120 minutes of action.
