Leicester City host Southampton at the King Power Stadium for their third Premier League fixture as they still look for their first EPL win. The Foxes and the Saints are currently seated in the 15th and 17th positions on the Premier League table. What is currently dominating discussions at Leicester are potential departures in the names of Wesley Fofana, Youri Tielemans, and Jamie Vardy all remaining to be hot topics of debate on whether they will leave or choose to stay at the club. Coach Brendan Rodgers will accept that it is part of football and perhaps put his focus on bringing on board necessary new signings as soon as possible. Even though Leicester have netted twice in each of their games against Brentford and Arsenal, they only have one point to show for their efforts, a consequence of six being conceded at the other end of the pitch. With Chelsea and Manchester United to follow, Rodgers knows that victory over an equally-open Southampton team would make his job that little bit more comfortable for the remainder of the month. Ever since they won the FA Cup in the 2020/21 campaign, the Foxes have been on a downward spiral and have become regulars at the mid of the table positions.
Ralph Hasenttuhl has already had to fend off questions about his future at this early stage of the season as far as Southampton are concerned. He would have been anticipating a more ferocious grilling from the media when his team were 2-0 down to Leeds last weekend, but their revival would have come as both a relief and a surprise. While Hasenhuttl will continue to have concerns about his defense, the show of character versus Leeds will give him confidence that his players can capitalize versus a Leicester defense who are playing with little belief. Southampton, are, however, on a five-game winless streak against the Foxes with their last success coming in January 2020 when they emerged victorious in a 2-1 win.
The Premier League will be entering its match day 3 today and every club is looking forward to having a successful campaign during the first half of the season. Unless there are any developments with the future of Fofana, the Frenchman should retain his spot in the Leicester backline. Caglar Soyuncu may, however, return in place of Daniel Amartey. On the other Southampton side, Sekou Mara and Adam Armstrong will have to be recalled if they are to make it passed a Leicester side they have not beaten for the past five occasions.
