German side Eintracht Frankfurt and Scottish side Rangers will meet tonight at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in the Europa League final as both sides look to end their long wait for European glory. The Bundesliga side has not tasted European glory for 4 decades now as they last lifted the UEFA Cup in 1980 after they beat rivals Borussia Monchengladbach. Rangers success in any European cup dates back even further to 1972 when they beat the Russian side Dynamo Moscow to clinch the UEFA Cup title. They, however, reached the UEFA Cup final 14 years ago where they lost to Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester. Apart from the European trophy being at stake here, the winner of the final will secure automatic qualification to next season's UEFA Champions League making the contest even tougher.
Not a single team has faced Eintracht Frankfurt in the knockout stages of the Europa League in this season's campaign and come out successful. Not Real Betis, not West Ham, and not even the Catalonia giants Barcelona who were eliminated in front of their own fans at the Camp Nou. In their current format, the German side had only made it as far as the semi-finals during the 2018-19 season losing to eventual champions Chelsea. It is worth noting, however, that Frankfurt ended the Bundesliga season in position 11 having gone their last 8 games without a single win.
Rangers will be celebrating their 150 years anniversary and there could hardly be a better way to do so than to win European glory. This will be their sixth attempt with four of their last finals seeing them forced to settle for the runners up position. Rangers were not able to win a back-to-back Premiership title and they have yet another final to square it out with Hearts in the Scottish Cup. Rangers has got a good record against German opposition having sent packing on previous occasions sent packing RB Leipzig and Borrusia Dortmund and the Eintracht Frankfurt might want to ask their neighbors for some tips if they are to avoid suffering at the hands of the Scottish side. Whichever way this game goes, it will be a promising final with a lot of thrills and entertainment as these two teams battle it out for Europan glory.
