Kevin de Bryune's strike put Manchester City ahead of Atletico Madrid as the two teams enter their second league tie of their UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The two teams will meet today at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and City goes into the match enjoying a 1-0 advantage acquired during their first leg tie at the Etihad Stadium. The reigning LaLiga champions have experienced another blow since suffering the Etihad defeat after Mallorca edged passed them 1-0 in their most recent LaLiga clash.
Manchester City made sure that Atletico Madrid do not attain a shot on goal in the entire 90 minutes they played at the Etihad Stadium. They have, however, made it through in two of their last three occasions they have lost in a UCL first leg. A twist of events comes however in the fact that Atleti have not won a Champions League match at home since October 2020 losing three and drawing four. City will be making their 100th appearance in the UCL competition and would want to make it memorable. They are still the EPL leaders after a much hyped battle with their Premier League rivals, Liverpool ended in a 2-2 draw. If they maintain the momentum without losing any points of the few games left, then the title is theirs to lose.
We expect the clash at the Wanda Metropolitano to be very intense as the two teams who have never put a Champions League trophy in their cabinets fight it out for a spot in the semifinals of the competition as they each dream of a first UCL title. It is worth noting however that Atleti are the ones who eliminated Mancity's bitter city rivals, Manchester United in the round of 16 of the competition in this season's campaign.
