Villarreal will be aiming to bounce back from four straight La Liga defeats when they face off with Getafe tonight at the Estadio de la Ceramica. The yellow submarines have been struggling recently and have dropped to the tenth position in the league table. Getafe on the other hand occupies the relegation-threatened position, currently sitting at position 19. Villarreal have not been victorious in Spain's top flight since overcoming Girona on January 22, losing each of their last four against Rayo Vallecano, Elche, Barcelona, and Mallorca.
Villarreal conceded four goals in their defeat to Mallorca last time; their disappointing run has seen them sink to the tenth position on the table. They are now 11 points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid and might struggle a lot if they are to make it to the UEFA Champions League positions this season. However, they are only three points behind sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano and might find it viable to aim to qualify for the Europa Conference League instead. Additionally, they are unbeaten against Getafe in the league since January 2019 and are still in the Conference League title race.
Getafe will not have much confidence heading into the game as they have lost six of their last seven top-flight matches against Villarreal. Earlier this season the two sides were held up in a goalless draw and were each forced to settle on one point. Getafe are on a three-game unbeaten run heading into this match having beaten Valencia and drawn with Atletico and Rayo Vallecano.
Getafe are undoubtedly involved in a relegation battle at this stage of the campaign but head coach Quique Sanchez Flores is still confident that he he has enough quality in his squad and can overturn the tide. Tonight's match will be a difficult game as both teams have different goals to achieve. While Getafe are looking to avoid relegation, Villarreal are aiming at European positions.
