Paris Saint Germain boss Cristophe Galtier is currently seating on a hot seat and he is up to face 90 minutes that could potentially make or break his time at the helm of the French giants. PSG go into their game against Bayern Munich tonight trailing behind 1-0 and will need to make a turn around if they are to get their hands on Europe's most coveted trophy this season. A solo strike from ex-PSG product Kingsley Coman was enough to propel the German side to victory in what was a hotly contested first leg fixture of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 knockout stages. Shades of the 2019-20 final arose in the French capital during Bayern's reunion with PSG, who lost the showpiece event three years ago to a Coman winner, and it was an identical story when the German champions came to town for the first leg of their last-16 tie.
There was no love on Valentines day between Coman and his former club PSG as he succumbed the Parisians at the heart of Paris breaking the hearts of many residents of the city. Bayern Munich further survived a late sending off for Benjamin Pavard to ensure that they stuck firmly one leg in the quarter finals. The German powerhouse, however, ought to be careful of suffering just a a second last-16 exit from their last 12 Champions League campaigns - the perennial German champions bowed out at this point to Liverpool in 2018-19. However, not since the 2010-11 season have the Bavarians been eliminated from the UCL knockout stages after winning the first leg tie. They will, however, take confidence from the fact that not since April 2018 have they failed to score at home in the Champions League. They are also currently involved in a Bundesliga title race with their all time nemesis Borussia Dortmund and are just seating on the top not due to being ahead in points but thanks to their goal scoring prowess.
PSG experience an illustrious historic moment last weekend in their 4-2 win against Nantes as they etched Kylian Mbappe's name into their record books as the club's all-time top goalscorer. There is little time for the Parisian to bask in the glory, however, as their European destiny hangs in the balance, again. With the axe hovering dangerously above his head, Galtier surely knows what is coming if PSG are eliminated from the Champions League last 16 for the fifth time in seven seasons. PSG have a poor record when it comes to mounting comebacks as the capital giants have only progressed from one of their six Champions League knockout ties in which they have lost the first leg.
Looking at the 12 previous meeting between Bayern Munich and PSG, both side each has six wins but tonight's match will prove to be an unlucky 13 for one manager. The question that remains to be asked is; who will it be? Is it going to be Julian Nagelsmann or Cristophe Galtier?
