Both reeling from a loss, Argentina and South African women's teams will both be hungry for a win after they failed to impress in their opening fixtures as the South Americans were edged out by Italy and South Africa were beaten by Sweden. Argentina have failed to progress to the knockout stages in any of their previous world cups and their hopes were dented a big blow in their opening game against European giants Italy. Their first match day looked to finish in a goalless draw but an 87th-minute winner from Cristiana Girelli. They will, however, be able to take confidence from their recent defensive performance having only conceded two goals in their last seven international games. They are certainly going into Friday's contest as favourites as Argentina is ranked 26 places higher than their South African counterparts in the World FIFA Rankings.
The African giants have already demonstrated that they can not be easily written off neither are they pushovers after they were narrowly defeated 2-1 by Sweden in their first match of the tournament. Hildah Magaia was the lady of the moment as she opened the scoring netting for South Africa just minutes before halftime before Sweden's Fridolina Rolfo equalized in the 65th minute and Amanda Ilestedt netted a winner at the 90th minute just before the blow of the final whistle. South Africa is believed to be able to trouble Argentina after producing such a stellar performance against the second-best-ranked team in the world. The African Lionesses will be looking to claim their first points in the FIFA World Cup having lost all four of their previous games at the World Cup finals.
