It will be the first elite fixture of this season's UCL as PSG host Juventus at the Parc de Princess as each side looks to perform better than they did last campaign.

Ever since 1996, these two European giants have not faced each other in a competitive match which makes the upcoming tonight's fixture one of the most interesting. Much has changed since they last met with the trajectory of Paris Saint Germain shooting up following the takeover by the Qatar Sports Investment back in 2011. The UEFA Champions League, however, continues to elude the Parisians following a 1-0 defeat by German powerhouse Bayern Munich in 2020 final which was the closest the French capital giants have come to lifting the most coveted club football trophy.

They were eliminated by Real Madrid last season in the round of 16 despite holding a 2-0 aggregate lead with only less than 30 minutes remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Karim Benzema's hat-trick turned the tied against PSG in the dying minutes of the game, a tide that proved to be too strong to counter. Manager Mauricio Pochettino was shown the door at the end of last season and now his successor Cristophe Galtier is tasked with bringing Europe's elite trophy to the Parc de Princess which is an uphill task based on the past records of his predecessors. PSG managers are mostly heavily scrutinized based on their UCL performance overlooking their performance in the Ligue 1  and other domestic competitions however good they might be.

Juventus, on the other side, have won the coveted European cup on two occasions in their history. They have, however, lost in 7 other finals thus being considered the eternal bridesmaid. The giants of Turin have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals of the Champions League ever since losing in the final to Barcelona and Real Madrid in 2015 & 2017. Their most recent disappointment is when they were sunk by Villarreal in the last 16 in last season's edition. Additionally, Juventus have not won the Serie A since 2020 with Inter Milan and AC Milan seemingly improving beyond them.

The Turin giants, however, remain unbeaten in the Serie A in their past five games. Their defense will certainly need to be at their best on Tuesday if they are to prevent PSG's star-studded attacking players from running riot at Parc des Princes. The Parisians boast of superstar Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr at their front line.
