Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier confirmed Lionel Messi is leaving the club at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Football's greatest player is set to leave PSG as the French's Ligue 1 champions head coach Christophe Galtier confirmed today that Lionel Messi will play his final game at the club on Saturday against Clermont Foot. He told reporters that he "had the privilege of managing the best player in the history of football" Messi has plenty of options on his table as is expected of a player of his caliber but Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal and their American counterparts Inter Miami seem to be the most likely options that the World Cup champions will pursue. It is reported that if the superstar signs with Inter Miami he could be loaned out to Barcelona for a period of six to eighteen months.

PSG won the Ligue 1 in each of Messi's two years there and therefore the critics who call his stint at the French capital club a failure are a bit harsh. The World Cup-winning champion registered 22 goals and 30 assists in 57 league appearances. The main goal of Paris Saint Germain signing Messi, however, was to steer the club to winning its first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy but that remained to be a pipe dream as they twice suffered a round of 16 Champions League exit. It would be unfair, however, to put all the blame on Messi in a club that consists of Mbappe, Neymar, and a whole bunch of star-studded football squad.  In addition to Messi's departure, reports have it that the club also wants Brazilian football star Neymar to also leave. This could pivot to a new transfer strategy that PSG want to pursue as sporting director Luis Campo focuses on signing younger players that are still developing rather than aging players at the apex of their powers or who are past their prime times on the pitch.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner now faces a choice as he departs from the French capital of either going to Saudi Arabia where he is already the country's tourism ambassador and chase the biggest paycheck by a wide margin or put prestige over money and work a loan deal with Barcelona after he signs for MLS and get a shot of capturing one more Champions League medal. Whichever choice the Argentine football superstar makes, he will remain arguably the greatest footballer to ever grace our football pitches, and winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was the cream that covers his well-decorated football career. It must feel awesome being Messi, because otherwise how can one explain the feeling one can get by being the greatest and best player in the greatest and best sport? Only Lionel Messi can!
