Moises Caicedo turned down a £111m move to Liverpool as he opted for a move to Chelsea instead. He arrived at the Chelsea training ground for his medical on Monday morning and completed that part of the process at lunchtime. Chelsea are understood to be paying an initial £100m, plus £15m in performance-related add-ons. Caicedo is set to sign an eight-year contract with an option to extend for a further year. His former club Brighton will have a sell-on clause that has been described as "significant" as part of the £115m deal to sell Caicedo. Half of the add-ons have been described as "quite easily achievable", while the other half are considered "much harder" to achieve.

Liverpool had last week reached an agreement with Brighton for £111m deal to sign Caicedo but the deal flopped when the player informed the Reds that he only intended to join Chelsea a club with which he had reached personal terms as early as May this year. Caicedo had been expected to travel to Liverpool for a medical on Friday after Jurgen Klopp's side had a bid accepted by Brighton following a midnight deadline for bids on Thursday. The Ecuador international, however, had a change of heart and informed the Reds who had a 1-1 stalemate with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge that he did not intend to join their ranks. He instead remained in London and made it clear he only wanted to leave Brighton for Chelsea, who have been pursuing him throughout this transfer period.

The £115m fee now eclipses the £106.8m Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez when breaking the British record transfer fee in January. Arsenal spent £105m on Declan Rice to secure his services from West Ham. Caicedo is now set to undergo a medical before his proposed switch, with the Blues managing to beat rivals, Liverpool, to his signature. Chelsea intend to sign two midfielders this summer and are still in pursuit of Southampton's Romeo Lavia despite Liverpool agreeing to a £60m deal for the Belgian.
