Brazil superstar Neymar has joined the growing list of big-name players in the Saudi Pro League after joining Al-Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar left Barcelona for Paris in 2017 but his future was thrown into doubt earlier this summer and he missed PSG's Ligue 1 opener on Saturday. The new Paris Saint Germain boss Luis Enrique did not include the Brazilian forward in his plans for this season and the French giants will undoubtedly be relieved to get his hefty salary off their wage bill. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “It is always difficult to say goodbye to an amazing player like Neymar, one of the best players in the world. I will never forget the day he arrived at Paris Saint-Germain and what he has contributed to our club and our project over the last six years. We have had great moments and Neymar will always be a big part of our history. I would like to thank Neymar and his family. We wish him all the very best for the future and his next adventure.”

Al-Hilal have now completed a deal worth 90m euros (£77.6m) plus add-ons for the Brazilian talisman. "I've achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places," Neymar said. The forward was understood to be earning an annual income in the region of 25m euros (£21.6m) at the French club. It is reported that in Saudi Arabia Neymar will earn about six times what he used to earn at PSG with an annual salary of about 150m euros. Al Hilal's chairman, Fahad bin Saad, called Neymar "a global icon" and "an unstoppable attacking force" in welcoming him to the club.

The Brazilian forward made 173 appearances for the French capital giants helping the club win 13 trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles, as well as reaching the 2020 Champions League final. PSG has reintegrated French superstar Kylian Mbappe back into the first-team squad and seem to have reached a deal with him after letting go of both Lionel Messi and Neymar, two of the world football greats. Neymar's move continues a remarkable summer spending spree by Saudi clubs, underlining the league's ambition to be one of the top competitions in the world in the next few years.
