West Ham United have reportedly failed in their attempts to sign Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, with a potential switch to the London Stadium 'falling through'.

West Ham recently reached a £30m deal agreement with Manchester United and were ready to have Harry Maguire in their ranks this season. It had been reported that the England international's move would go through last week but it is now reported that the whole deal has collapsed. The reports further indicate that the potential issue that could have led to the deal not going through was that the Hammers might have failed to agree on personal terms with Harry Maguire. The English center-back had allegedly been looking for a substantial pay-off to leave Old Trafford.

It is also reported that Manchester United might have had second thoughts about selling Maguire since the transfer period is coming to a close at the end of August and they would be left with little time to sign a replacement if he is to leave. The Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag has said on three separate occasions over the last few weeks that he is planning to keep hold of Maguire for the 2023-24 campaign. The defender is said to be 'settled' at Old Trafford and is confident that he will make plenty of appearances for the club this season despite the fact that he is only their fourth-choice center-back.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane started as the center-back pairing against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the Monday night fixture before Victor Lindelof entered at halftime due to Martinez getting off with an injury. Maguire was not even guaranteed a starting role last season when Varane and Martinez were both injured, with Luke Shaw being selected alongside Lindelof in the middle of the defense when that occurred. He only started eight Premier League matches last season and it will even be more difficult seeing him being given more playing time during the 2023-24 campaign. His majority of starts will come in the Carabao EFL Cup and the FA Cup, but a lack of regular action will harm his chances of starting for England at Euro 2024.

Aston Villa had also shown interest in the defender in recent days, although it appears that Man United are no longer willing to let him leave this close to the end of the market. Maguire also had the captain's armband taken away from him this season as Erik Ten Hag handed over the captaincy to Bruno Fernandes. He has another two years remaining on his contract with Manchester United with an option to extend for a third year. Manchester United head to Tottenham Hotspur next weekend as they bid to have two successive Premier League victories.
