What next for Mbappe?

sokapro-What next for Mbappe?

It is yet again another transfer season or yet again another "Mbappe's saga" season as the French super star is not new to controversy during this time of the year. He has done it before and he is doing it again.

Mbappe is at it again! The French superstar is playing hardball on signing a new deal with Paris Saint Germain yet he has declined an offer of a whooping $1.1 Billion from Al-Hilal. On Monday, PSG reportedly permitted the Saudi club to negotiate with Mbappe upon receiving a $332 million (€300 million) transfer fee from Al Hilal, amid a contract standoff with the star striker who has made it clear that he is not in for a new deal. The Saudi Arabian club delegation had hoped to meet up with Mbappe to have a chat about a possible signing but the 24-year-old has made it clear that his ambitions are to remain playing in the competitive European leagues. PSG, however, have neither confirmed whether the French superstar has rejected the Al-Hilal deal yet nor are they convinced that he has agreed to a deal with Real Madrid, thus putting them in an awkward position for they have made it clear that they will not let their most priced asset leave the club as a free agent.

If Kylian Mbappe had accepted to move to Saudi Arabia, the $332 million (€300 million) transfer deal would have smashed the current world transfer record of $263 million (€222 million) that PSG hold for signing Neymar from Barcelona in 2017. The Saudi League has been growing in popularity ever since Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Al-Nassr but his nemesis, the legendary Lionel Messi rejected a move to AL-Hilal and opted to sign for Inter Miami in the USA Major Soccer League.

Mbappe is currently ranked third on the Forbes list of the highest-paid athletes in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The French talisman has an estimated earnings of $120 million on-and-off field deals in the past 12 months ending May 1, 2023. The other competitive teams that are likely to sign Mbappe if he does not agree to a deal with PSG are Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Tottenham, Barcelona, and Arsenal. What makes it hard for the aforementioned clubs to sign the French superstar is that they most likely will have to settle for transfer fees lower than $214 million (€180 million), the price paid to Monaco for Mbappé in 2017.

The French striker's decision has once drawn even the intervention of French President Emmanuel Macron and it is yet to be seen whether the hardball he is currently playing with PSG will draw similar attention or he will be snobbed off completely. Emmanuel Macron last year had said that the 2018 World Cup winner can "stay a bit more" in regard to his move to Real Madrid then and that his stay at PSG was "so important for the country." The President yet again showed his intention for Mbappe to remain at the French capital giants yet again in June this year. All football fans around the globe know that for sure Kylian Mbappe will put pen to paper, but the big question remains to be; For which club?
