Kylian Mbappe has for a long time now been on a contract stand-off with PSG amid his desire to join his childhood dream club Real Madrid. The French capital giant's all-time leading goal scorer is refusing to sign a contract extension on his current deal that ends in June next year and the PSG hierarchy have remained adamant that if he is not willing to put pen to paper then he must leave the club. This is informed by the decision that they would rather cash in on their most-priced asset rather than let him off the hook for free during next summer's transfer window when he is no longer obligated to them. As a result of the stand-off, Mbappe was left out of PSG's summer tour to Asia and that did not seem to deter him as he subsequently refused to meet up with representatives of Al Hilal, a club that were willing to offer him a world record deal that would see him become the highest paid athlete in the next decade.
PSG will begin their Ligue 1 title defense on Saturday against Lorient and it is understood that Mbappe will train with the 'loft' group rather than the 'A' training group, which is players who could feature for the first team. Sources close to the PSG hierarchy disclose that the club's most recent attempt to broker a solution to the situation was to offer Mbappe a guaranteed sale clause in his contract for the end of this season. This offer was, however, rejected by the French superstar. After years of underachievement in the UEFA Champions League with their 'galactico' model of signing superstar players, PSG have opted to go down a different path this time around and are understood to be closing on a deal with Benfica's Goncalo Ramos. The young talent netted a hat-trick for Portugal in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and has since been attracting a lot of interest from various top-flight clubs in Europe. The French capital giants are expected to part with 80m euros (£69m) for the talisman. The football world waits to see what will become of the push and pull currently undergoing between PSG and its star player Kylian Mbappe.
